Riverdale Park East, my local park, was once farmed by prisoners at the Don Jail and was later the site of three royal visits and military parades. Some of this I already knew, and some I just learned through the app Driftscape.
Launched over a year ago, the app brings together historical content from 19 partners in a responsive map that follows you around Toronto. Lately I’ve been enjoying finding historical plaques, sites of queer history and other tales of the city through the app. The content is multi-media, including video, audio and text. What a great way to bring history to a wider audience, and what a nice tool for learning about any neighbourhood you may visit!
